They are present in quite a few of destinations throughout the Half-Life series, including in the rocket propulsion test chamber and Xen. They also are latest in Half-Life: Opposing Force and the Quarantine Zone of City 17 in Half-Life: Alyx. Their smallest forms are able with cloaking, while their larger ones characteristic stabby tendrils that can be utilized to break through walls and entrap their prey. Their tentacles are used to ensnare their prey and drag them into the base of the tentacles, where they're then digested and consumed. In a standard attack, the creature will grab their prey after which simply twist them into a decent bundle, then pull them into the pit at the base of its tentacles. When a player encounters a tentacle monster, they may shoot at the stalk that the creature's head is attached to to drive it into its pit. While this may quickly drive the monster out of range, it is customarily best to crouch or use explosives (preferably hand grenades) as a distraction. The Tentacle Monster is a harmful, but clever monster that responds to sound and vibrations. In the first Half-Life episode, it is the main threat to Hyun Cha and Jisu as they effort to rescue Dusik Hahn from its clutches. Despite their attempts to kill it with Wook Pyeon's weapons, it quickly learned to use its sprinkler system to save itself from being killed.
