The game happens in a post-modern steampunk technology fiction world where robots and bio-engineered mutants coexist along people. Cloud Strife, an eco-terrorist group called AVALANCHE, has been hired by them to fight Shinra Electric Power Company which controls Mako Energy - Mako Earth's sole source of energy. He initially strives for personal gain, yet soon realizes his activities have an important effect on all the world. Ultimately, he joins rebel group AVALANCHE and youth friend Tifa Lockhart in their mission to defeat Shinra Electric Power Company and save Earth. Along the manner, he meets many interesting characters, equivalent to Vincent Valentine - a former Turk who has become knowledgeable at transmuting into colossal forms. Although able to speak little, Vincent gives constructive advice when it comes to combat and helping his team pop out triumphant. Sephiroth, an ancient, effectual character who joins the party briefly during a single sequence, also joins them. He holds a secret that only he can reveal and wields a big sword that could only be wielded by Shinra; though he was said to have vanished years ago, he reappears in flashback sequences to testify of loyalty in opposition t Shinra. Final Fantasy VII incorporates a wide array of references from mythology and folklore, to faith and popular tradition.
