Sex was a significant theme in pornographic works, starting from erotic woodblock prints to orgiastic scenes. Pornography also explored topics comparable to contraception and abortion, and was a strong car for social protest. Today, pornography has developed into a closed-door corporate film desktop. But, as Luke Ford shows in A History of X, it has a history - and a sad one at that. Ford's book is an efficient start, but it does not do much to solve the pornography industry's issues. Several key themes are addressed, but overall it is poorly researched and missing in coherence. For example, its characterization of the mob's role in early porn is convincing. Moreover, its generalizations are opaque. Ford's "History" references books, magazines, websites and a lot of other assets. This could help researchers find applicable counsel, but the book is also a mess on the printed page. There are no indexes, and the chapters are jump-cut, which means the book lacks entire coherence.
