Ford bounces from performer profile to timeline advancement, and this makes the book challenging to read. At times it seems like a moral train wreck, and it's hard to see how any of the most important themes can be safely explored. A History of X appeals to insiders of the porn industry, but it is not a good book for outsiders. Some of the stories are lively but sadly miserable, and the book in large part lacks trends.
