However, some sorts of pornography do not meet legal definitions of obscenity. Another definition of pornography is that it is fabric that promotes sexual arousal in viewers. This definition can include cloth that's not obscene and may be regarded innocent. In the US, most Americans define pornography as adult cable programming or hardcore videos. Other styles of pornography come with live sex acts, peep shows, and specific messages. Some pornography involves babies. For many years, liberals have defended the right to produce and consume pornography. But critics have claimed that it is obscene and that it violates religious values. They also argue that it is indecent and corrupts the personality of adults.

Anyone caught promoting, allotting, or publishing "indecent or express" fabric may face a fine of up to 2,500,000 yen. While the laws are strict, they aren't very clear.
