The idea is still rooted in the belief of Asian women as "others," where they're viewed as lower than white women. For instance, in a documentary called Seeking Asian Female, a white male, 60 years old, finds a bride in China via a dating site. However, he does not explain why he chose to marry a Chinese woman. Another aspect of Asian pornography is that Asian women are often underrepresented in the time-honored media and in the roles of both perpetrators and victims. Asian pornography often reinforces this stereotype and may inspire violence against Asian women. This fetishization of Asian men and ladies is a symptom of a bigger cultural problem. There are few Asian males in American tv shows and movies that depict a more diverse group. Instead, Asian women are presented as submissive and passive to the white man. These stereotypes are a fabricated from Western imperialism and are a part of a larger sociocultural framework. The origins of Asian pornography aren't known, but there are a number of scholars who point to alternative ancestries. For example, the Page Act, which banned the importation of Asian women, displays an in advance fear that Chinese women might be sexual prostitutes.
