The film's most distinctive feature is Rex McElhenney's unorthodox performance as Mikey, a character whose dream is to become a leading man sometime. This might seem funny and heartwarming, but it is simply plain wrong. The film leads to a gut-wrenching way. Red Rocket is the newest film by director Sean Baker, who looks at the lives of low-class Americans from a new angle. Rex is a relative unknown, but his beauty, chops, and aura make him an ideal choice for this role.
