Unlike the taboos that exist around food, refuge, and drinking, there is no social stigma towards sex. Indian women are able to have pleasing sex, however the desire is often disregarded. Instead, conversations about sex in Indian culture focus on violence and rape. 82 per cent of Indian women refuse to have interaction in sex with their husbandsAccording to a survey conducted by the National Family Health Survey 5 (NFHS-5), 82 per cent of Indian women say that they are going to not engage in sexual intercourse with their husbands. According to the survey, the commonest reasons for women not to engage in sex are having sexually transmitted ailments, having an alternate partner, or being too tired. However, some states have higher rates of refusal than others. According to the study, 82 per cent of married women report that their husbands have engaged in sexual violence against them. Of these, 84 per cent of them said that they were forced to have sex with their husbands, which is a type of rape under the IPC. The highest percentage of girls reporting sexual violence by their husbands was found in Karnataka, while the lowest percent was found in Ladakh. The survey also showed that ladies from southern states were more likely to report discrimination than women from other parts of the country. However, women in these states are more educated and out live women in other parts of the country.
