To her credit, Strossen lays out a series of facts about pornography, from its origins in the 1970s to the current situation. She also makes a slew of references to famous figures in the pornography biz. For instance, 86 percent of convicted rapists admitted to always using pornographic cloth. However, Strossen seems to have somewhat a vendetta towards anti-porn activists. Although she presents a whole lot of facts and figures, her approach fails to set the right tone. Her book is more a sequence of arguments than a considerate study in itself. While she does make the case for a robust and thorough exam of the First Amendment's protections for sexual expression, she does not provide enough proof that censorship of pornography is the one viable option. While Defending Pornography is a worthy encapsulation of the best ideas and controversies that surround the topic, she has omitted the one thing that things most. The skill to have a healthy discussion concerning the best way to offer protection to sexual expression is very important to ensuring that each person gets what they deserve. There are other books that have tested this topic more wholly. Perhaps one of those is the "The Pornography of America: From Sex to Sensibility".
