While it's important to give protection to the liberty of expression, it can also embolden extremist aspects. In Japan, most contemporary art museums are publicly owned, and the MAM has been the subject of protests. However, regardless of its debatable position in the sphere, the museum is privately owned and backed by the effectual Mori family, that's a pillar of the Japanese tradition. There are many reasons why artists may self-censor their work. Some are symbolic, designed to promote social solidarity and avoid insults to shared values. Others are in response to the pursuits of effective people. For instance, censorship that limits free speech erodes public trust, and it also prevents people from making knowledgeable choices during elections. Another problem with self-censorship is that it is used to attack the 'other' side of a discussion. Far-right voices often cherrypick examples to advertise their cause. However, such arguments are false and might promote intolerance and polarization. Rather than specializing in the problem itself, the far right uses examples of forced self-censorship to create a disagreement.
