To tackle the situation, Nikkatsu shifted its focus to the production of movies with salacious erotic content. These films were renamed "Roman Porno," combining the French word "roman" with the English word "pornography," or "romantic pornography". The studio's new films were higher idea, higher-budget erotic fare. Some of the films produced under this label, including "Affair In the Afterno," have spawned more than 20 sequels. The Nikkatsu Corporation was headquartered in 1912 after a couple of theater chains and creation companies determined to merge. At the time, the company's directors were the famed Shozo Makino and Masahiro Makino. Both of those men were former executives of Shochiku. The agency had a long and illustrious history in Japan. Before World War II, Nikkatsu was the nation's most desirable movie studio. But after the war, Nikkatsu's focus turned to "romantic pornography," a genre that was more profitable.
