Film review of Paul Schrader's 1979 Neo-noir film PleasureIf you're looking for a good film it truly is a little different from the usual fare, then Pleasure may be just the film for you. Though Schrader has never directed a comedic film before, his variety of dark, grim ambience is a perfect fit for this Neo-noir thriller. The film is a good instance of the kind of movies that are available on VOD and streaming services. The performances are enormously strong and Richard Pryor really shines in this role. The cast of this film entails the great Robert Mitchum, who constructed his career around the genre of film noir. The actor had a dreamy indifferent appearance and a robust physical presence. He appeared to be indifferent from the cases he filmed and looked as if it would confront death or luck without caring even if he was a success or unsuccessful. The film noir genre offers a voyeuristic exhilaration of transgression. It shows corrupted people conducting immoral actions or sinful acts. In the early days, the genre's films pushed the bounds of recent censorship. Ads for these films promised titillation for audience by portraying violent men, easy women, and doomed organisations.
