A series of hearings in Minneapolis, Minnesota, sparked debate. Women claiming to have been harmed by pornographic cloth introduced complaints towards their creators. Advocates for the ordinance argued that it'd advertise civil rights by combating sex discrimination. But competitors argued that the ordinance was in clash with the First Amendment. A federal court ruled against the ordinance. The case was Miller v. California. In Miller, the court defined a basic legal general for pornography. According to the Miller choice, pornography must meet three requirements to be classified as obscene. Pornography must portray sexual conduct defined by law, it must lack severe creative or literary value, and it must entice a prurient attention. This court determination prepared the ground for a legislative attack on pornography.
