These prevalent depictions feature women who discover as Jewish, often from low or working class backgrounds but who obtain fulfillment via their chosen professions. Typically these characters live at home and depend on their folks' income for help. Traditionally, Jewish households do not encourage their toddlers to interact in deviant sexual behaviors. However, this has modified as more Jews adopt a mundane interpretation of Judaism that does not sanction premarital sexual members of the family or divorce prohibitions. The stereotype of the Jewish American Princess (JAP) can be traced back to post-World War II literature reminiscent of Herman Wouk's 1955 novel Marjorie Morningstar and Philip Roth's 1959 novel Goodbye, Columbus. In these memories, the JAP acts as a spoilt brat who makes an attempt to win over the affections of a male lead. Although the Jewish Princess was seen as a stereotypical character, further and further women are taking up this role. Alison Brie's character on Community is an outstanding instance; she starts out with all the stereotypical JAP characteristics but finally blossoms into an assertive and self reliant woman in a position to rising from waitressing duties to fitting a successful businesswoman. Shoshanna Shapiro from the TV series Girls is an alternate modern Jewish American Princess. In the show, her character begins with a perfect coif and pink Juicy Couture tracksuit. Her fogeys pay $2,100 month-to-month for their plush residence in Manhattan where she often poses in front of the mirror dressed in makeup and making feedback about her coiffure.
