The long run financial slump in Japan has a harmful effect on pursuing long run relationships. A 30-year-old woman I know had a boyfriend eight years ago, but she doesn't need a physical relationship. She says the economy keeps her from pursuing other goals and commitments. This trend may be partly due to an ambivalent perspective toward marriage. The first speculation is that Japanese women usually tend to delay marriage as they age, and the second one theory posits that they usually tend to be married later in life. Nevertheless, this theory is not supported by attitudinal data. One study found that 86% of men and 89% of ladies who had never married planned to get married sooner or later. Furthermore, several other experiences have found that a large percent of single Japanese need to marry sooner or later in the future. While a couple of factors can explain this trend, the most typical factor influencing the decline in Japanese marriage rates is a transformation in the provision of talents companions.
