In the first film, an unknown stripper-actress blew cigarette smoke out of her vagina. Her second film, directed by Francis Giacobetti, featured a more skilled, refined Emmanuelle. When Emmanuelle returns home from Paris, her husband Jean asks her if she had any other lovers. She tells him that she has not had lovers while in Paris. However, she does not give in to his strain and tells him that she wants one more lover. The two women begin a sexual relationship and end up falling in love. Despite the popularity of the Emmanuelle franchise, the movies have been met with censorship in some international locations. The French censors banned both the first film and the sequel, but the ban was ultimately overturned. In countries where porn is unlawful, this franchise has been largely banned. The Emmanuelle series of movies were very common in the 1970s. The X-rated era and the rise of a common target audience's tolerance for sex-driven films boosted the popularity of the series.
