The title man or woman is a brothel owner, who has gained a good deal of power in the crook and political worlds of France. Her clients consist of a shah of Iran and John F. Kennedy. She also works with organized crime and the police to protect herself. The '70s see France change dramatically. Madame Claude will soon find herself with none chums. While the film has many issues with its script and architecture, the actors convey some memorable performances. The leads, Karole Rocher and Garance Marillier, give a fine functionality. The romance among the two leads could have easily been the film's important enchantment.
