Many of those series function sexually orientated protagonists that are customarily pre-teen girls. Some argue that lolicon media promotes child sexual abuse. However, other researchers have argued that the presence of lolicon media doesn't lead to greater child sexual assault. Indeed, reviews have found that countries with legalized digital child pornography have lower rates of sex crimes. Although the lolicon genre is usually considered offensive in Japanese society, it is embraced in popular tradition. Lolicon characters are often seen as a "third gender" by female fans, which permits for a distinctive range of appropriation. The same is right for male fans of those characters.
