The rise of deepfakes has drawn a good deal of media attention in recent months. One recent video showed the Belgian most excellent Sophie Wilmes creating a speech by which she claimed that the COVID-19 pandemic was a result of environmental destruction. The video's creators had edited the video to indicate a special result - that of a COVID-19 pandemic. Deepfakes are also constructive in manipulating market prices. Some tweets containing misinformation have had a major impact on the market. One false claim caused crude oil prices to rise briefly. Another instance involved Abercrombie and Fitch, whose brand fell in popularity consequently of its CEO's observation. The use of deepfakes by artists has spurred a public dialog about public figures, personal images, and social issues. In one case, Stephanie Lepp used the video platform to share her videos that depict people saying things that are contradictory to their public character. Another video project by Bill Poster and Daniel Howe in 2019 featured doppelgangers of Kim Kardashian. In the past year, Reddit and Pornhub banned deepfake videos.17.03.2023
