The popularity of lolicon in the U. S. led to a new style of animation called "moe. " This style blends shojo and lolicon into one style. Many of those series function sexually oriented protagonists that are often pre-teen girls. Some argue that lolicon media promotes child sexual abuse. However, other researchers have argued that the presence of lolicon media does not result in greater child sexual attack. Indeed, reports have found that international locations with legalized virtual child pornography have lower rates of sex crimes. Although the lolicon genre is commonly regarded offensive in Japanese society, it is embraced in frequent tradition. Lolicon characters are sometimes seen as a "third gender" by female fans, which allows a various range of appropriation. The same is correct for male fans of these characters.
