LoliconLolicon, short for Lolita complicated, is a term derived from the unconventional Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, first posted in 1955. It was later translated into Japanese in 1969 and renamed Lolicon. At the time, pornographic manga were depicted in an incredibly sensible manner. Takekuma Kentaro's Azuma was a very commonplace manga. Lolicon was a response to the supposed connection among cartoons and erotic pleasure. The works featured childlike characters undertaking sex. Although they were regarded as erotic by a small minority of fans, they were in fact meant to be comical. Their sexual content was a reflection of the artists' own sexual desires. The push against lolicon was initiated by foreigners and businesses with a stake in the Japanese public. Lolicon's defenders claim that this phenomenon is not pedophilic and is barely a difficulty because of the cultural values of the Japanese. Foreigners who are looking to ban lolicon, however, are really harming real little ones.
