To further investigate the relationship among the two types of behaviour, the present study tested self-infliction and tricky eating in the context of boredom. Self-infliction was assessed using single items, while problematic eating was based on existing measures. All scales contributed to the prediction of adaptive and maladaptive behaviour. The community score for adaptive behaviour was a serious predictor of boredom avoidance, while the score for maladaptive behaviour was a major predictor of escape tendencies. Furthermore, the SBPS score mapped better to the definition of boredom than the DWB-M score. It has a medium bad correlation with the DWB-A, but a small constructive correlation with the BAE. Overall, the findings imply that a big part of the affiliation between the two behaviours can be explained by a link among poor self-handle and not more adaptive behaviour.
