While Ford covers the origins of pornography in a detailed manner, the book suffers from a loss of coherence and a lack of general point. He does not mention the "new wave" of pornographic films, which began around 1990. Ford's book is a set of articles and interviews with individuals who worked in the porno industry. Unlike other porno books, which frequently aim to stir outrage, this book argues that the sex industry has been a force for good. In fact, the author points out that the Mob has been concerned in early porn.
