Jewish PrincessesJewish Princesses (now and again known as JAPs) have a long-standing tradition in the USA. These accepted depictions feature women who identify as Jewish, often from low or working class backgrounds but who achieve success via their chosen professions. Typically these characters live at home and depend upon their folks' income for help. Traditionally, Jewish families do not encourage their toddlers to interact in deviant sexual behaviors. However, this has changed as more Jews adopt a mundane interpretation of Judaism that doesn't sanction premarital sexual family members or divorce prohibitions. The stereotype of the Jewish American Princess (JAP) can be traced back to post-World War II literature consisting of Herman Wouk's 1955 novel Marjorie Morningstar and Philip Roth's 1959 novel Goodbye, Columbus. In these thoughts, the JAP acts as a spoilt brat who tries to win over the affections of a male lead. Although the Jewish Princess used to be seen as a stereotypical character, more and more women are taking on this role. Alison Brie's personality on Community is an excellent example; she starts out with each of the stereotypical JAP characteristics but eventually blossoms into an assertive and impartial woman competent of rising from waitressing duties to fitting a a hit businesswoman. Shoshanna Shapiro from the TV series Girls is an alternate modern Jewish American Princess. In the show, her personality begins with an ideal coif and pink Juicy Couture tracksuit.
