xxx is a restrictive rating for filmsMany people may not notice that the X rating for films is not in reality a restrictive one at all. In the 1970s, it was common for movies to acquire a X rating. However, this rating was not trademarked and pornographers began using it. This rating became very common as pornography became more established and more acceptable. Eventually, it became common to use multiple X ratings to distinguish films with alternative levels of sexual content material. This rating was first announced by the MPAA in 1969.
