Movie producers submit their films to the Classification and Rating Administration (CIRA) before they are published. The MPAA is composed of folks who don't seem to be involved in the amusement industry, and they have strict standards for censorship. While lots of the X-rated movies were not made for children, there are exceptions. In the early years of the X-rating system, most X-rated films had graphic language and nudity. In addition, many films were deemed irrelevant for infants, and many newspapers refused to advertise them. In addition, unrated films from time to time had a disclaimer that warned audiences that their content was compatible for adults. Filmmakers who do not accept as true with the MPAA's X rating policy have been forced to edit their films on the way to achieve the R-rated rating. This makes it more challenging for them to get their films shown in theaters. Additionally, X-rated films are more expensive to provide, making them less appealing to watch. Deep Throat was the first pornographic film to make the most the MPAA and brand itself as "X-rated. " This marked the beginning of the gradual takeover of the X rating, and spawned the NC-17 rating.
