Nikkatsu CorporationThe Nikkatsu Corporation is a mythical Japanese film studio. The company has been making feature films intermittently since 1912. Its best work has been in the 1950s, when it all started moving away from kaiju movies and entering into more mainstream genres like ancient drama and comedy. In the 1970s, Nikkatsu was in dire financial straits, as the popularity of tv drained its salary from its function films. This led the agency to turn to erotic and salacious content. Nikkatsu branded this new cinematic genre as Roman Porno - a combination of the French word for novel with the English word for pornography. Despite the erotic content material, the movies are still considered dramas and comedies. Nikkatsu has been out of enterprise for a few years, but Impulse Pictures is bringing these films back to life on DVD.
