Japan's sex industry has a long and chequered history and remained fairly traditional in comparison to mainland Asia. Despite the ambiguous legal status of the industry in Japan, it was pretty open and enjoyed a level of social legitimacy. Such openness made it feasible to enforce thorough reforms and confirm the welfare of these involved. Many Japanese women and men work within the legal barriers of the sex industry. However, this profession has been subjected to a variety of social and political influences. This means that Western conceptions of sex are not necessarily applicable to Japanese culture and thought. Nevertheless, Japanese women are not proof against social prejudice and this can help explain their loss of vocal resistance. A recent study aimed to observe how sexual schooling could impact attitudes towards sex. A total of 502 highschool scholars in Shiga prefecture took part. The individuals were asked to complete a questionnaire survey and attend lectures by midwives affiliated with Shiga University of Medical Science. This was followed by correspondence analyses.
