Another case, stated in The Economist in March 1991, concerned a girl of the "effective" Jat caste who tried to elope with a Dalit boy in a village near Delhi. The survey found that Hindus generally feel it is very vital to steer clear of men and ladies from marrying external their caste. While two-thirds of Hindus said it is important to circumvent inter-caste marriage, only 1/4 of Christians said it was crucial. The neighborhood's opposition to inter-caste marriage is rooted in its obsession with gendered innocence. Hindu nationalists are unable to fathom the idea that Muslim women can be free from social control. They accept as true with that Muslim women are either promiscuous or planted. The Hindu caste system approximately mirrors the entire population's distribution of religion. The General Category castes are dominated by Jains and Dalits, while Muslims and Sikhs disproportionately identify with Non-Brahmin General Castes and OBCs. Interestingly, people who are highly knowledgeable are more likely to identify as General Category castes. Meanwhile, those without higher schooling usually tend to belong to OBC. Hinduism has four main castes and thousands of sub-castes.
