Possible reforms to porn lawsThe Chinese executive is presently throwing resources into common pornography-clean-up campaigns with mixed consequences. While the executive has tried to implement the law, its implementation is marked by disjointed rules, contradictory respectable insurance policies, and subjective legal criteria. Moreover, law enforcement agents are often free to use their discretion when pursuing a pornography case. The proposed reforms would increase the diversity of offences by including those that use synthetic intelligence to alter images to appear pornographic. The laws would provide help to prosecute pornographers and make the consequences more severe. They would also bring the law in line with foreign criteria. However, specialists have noted that some key points of the bill are lacking. In addition to cracking down on pornography, the Chinese govt has banned online discussions about it. The Internet watchdog has also warned general web portals to take away porn content. The crackdown is a part of the govt's efforts to limit free speech. Many sites advocating Taiwan independence, democratic reform, and dissenting views have also been blocked.
