The video follows the lifetime of a 25-year-old red panda named Retsuko. This mascot is a member of the Sanrio group, and her name means "fever" or "fervor. " Retsuko is an office lady who holds her rage in at work and lets loose with death metal singing at a native karaoke club. She hates her job and hates the treatment she gets at work, so she uses death metal with a view to vent her anger. The characters in the show are pretty relatable. The caricature series makes a speciality of themes reminiscent of gender discrimination and working women. In fact, the director of the show was bowled over to find out that folks external of Japan found the scene hilarious and located it interesting that people still had gender discrimination issues at work. The show is directed by Masaaki Yuasa and is based on the 1973 catastrophe novel by Sakyo Komatsu. The main character Retsuko is a 25-year-old red panda who works in an accounting firm. Her life is disturbing and she tries to stay useful. The series is available on Netflix.
