Typically these characters live at home and depend on their fogeys' income for aid. Traditionally, Jewish households do not encourage their babies to interact in deviant sexual behaviors. However, this has changed as more Jews adopt a secular interpretation of Judaism that does not sanction premarital sexual members of the family or divorce prohibitions. The stereotype of the Jewish American Princess (JAP) can be traced back to post-World War II literature reminiscent of Herman Wouk's 1955 novel Marjorie Morningstar and Philip Roth's 1959 novel Goodbye, Columbus. In these reports, the JAP acts as a spoilt brat who makes an attempt to win over the affections of a male lead. Although the Jewish Princess was seen as a stereotypical personality, increasingly women are taking on this role. Alison Brie's personality on Community is a brilliant example; she starts out with all of the stereotypical JAP characteristics but finally blossoms into an assertive and independent woman capable of rising from waitressing duties to fitting a a hit businesswoman. Shoshanna Shapiro from the TV series Girls is an alternative modern Jewish American Princess. In the show, her personality begins with an ideal coif and pink Juicy Couture tracksuit. Her parents pay $2,100 per 30 days for their plush condominium in Manhattan where she often poses in front of the mirror wearing makeup and making comments about her coiffure. Reality tv often elements Jewish Princesses; The Jersey Shore boasts some, as do Real Housewives and Shahs of Sunset.
