As the X-Rating was rising in popularity, more pornographers began using it on their films. Some even used dissimilar X’s to stress the adult content in their films. The X-Rating was announced by the MPAA to permit filmmakers to make films without having to worry about censorship boards. It was a way for them to break free of the rules that were in place since the film rating system first began. But despite this freedom, the X-Rating also had its detractors. Many theater owners were adversarial to displaying films with this rating, because they idea it might be hard to sell tickets to their audiences. The X-Rating also had a poor impact on other sorts of films, similar to folks that were not pornographic. This was as a result of numerous people didn't want to go to theaters that might only show films with an X-Rating. The X-Rating also had an effect on television and radio advertisements.
