The award, shaped like a hand, was designed by Genevan painter Roger Pfund, and it symbolizes the awareness and mastery of watchmaking crafts. Each year, a jury is shaped to examine which timepieces will get hold of GPHG Awards. The Jury is led by historian and author Nick Foulkes, and is made out of 30 contributors.
