It indicated a film contained content that was mistaken for babies due to extreme violence, strongly implied sex and/or graphic language. It was changed by the NC-17 rating in 1990. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, there has been a time when movie makers had a lot of freedom to make films. This was because the X rating didn't must be trademarked, and anyone could use it on their films. It also meant that people that desired to see porn would be capable of finding these movies easily. As the X-Rating was rising in popularity, more pornographers started using it on their films. Some even used assorted X’s to emphasise the adult content in their films. The X-Rating was introduced by the MPAA to permit filmmakers to make films without having to fret about censorship boards. It was a way for them to break free of the guidelines that were in place since the film rating system first began.
