Ford also takes a examine the mob's involvement with early porn, in addition to its role in discrediting European elites. His chapter on the mob is robust. However, the "History" itself is poorly edited, jump-cut, and a bit opaque. There are too many references to sites and books. These could save researchers loads of time. While the book has a good premise, it isn't a radical exam of the pornography industry. For instance, it fails to mention a new wave of pornographic films that began around 1990. Ford's biggest problem is that he does not have a clear sense of what it is he's speaking about. He makes generalizations and tries to clarify things in a way that's acceptable to the porno industry.
