In a separate study, pornography viewing and attitudes toward women were linked only when the individual had more pornographic viewing in the past. The study examined the role of personality traits in mediating this relationship, and located that viewing pornography was associated with less egalitarian attitudes and more hostile sexism. Moreover, those with lower agreeableness tended to have more sexist attitudes than people with high agreeableness. In both reports, experimental publicity to pornography was found to considerably influence hostile attitudes toward women after they were uncovered to pornography, while it did not affect benevolent attitudes toward women in participants who weren't.
