Dojinshi marketThe Dojinshi marketplace for Japanese porn videos has elevated dramatically in the late 1980s, and is now estimated to include around half of all of the market. The market is also plagued by copyright complications, so dojinshi are often a good place to debut before being featured in a pro journal. Famous names like Yaoi began their careers in this market. Japanese porn culture has a long history of embracing erotic content material. During the 1980s, most Japanese families had at least two televisions and VCRs. While few A/Vs were sold in the laserdisc format, VHS was the prime format. Many porn films released in Japan were authorized by the Japanese film industry regulator, Eirin, and thus complied with Japanese law. However, some creators fear litigation will alienate their base of hardcore fans. Because the majority of doujinshi creators are hardcore fans, launching litigation would have hazardous reputational penalties. Also, destroying a low-profit fan comic could leave an artist with an ogre-like attractiveness. Luckily, the Japanese Copyright Law doesn't force creators to remove their fan comics unless the rights holder complains about their use.
