Workers often perform sex acts at karaoke bars, therapeutic massage parlors, hair salons, and even in public parks. Human Rights Watch interviewed sex staff in Beijing and found that many of the practices violated their privacy and human rights. They were also subject to forced HIV/AIDS checking out, which violates their right to confidentiality. Furthermore, they were not allowed to acquire access to their scientific data. In addition, the Chinese government does not supply enough health amenities for its staff. In addition to sex workers, the shoppers of those workers face many legal consequences for prostitution. In some cases, these consumers may also be administratively detained or fined. This lack of accountability in China has led to a major under-reporting of crimes dedicated by sex employees. It also encourages a belief that these crimes are not severe enough to be investigated. Prostitution was a typical enterprise for Chinese immigrants to make cash. This influx of immigrants was also followed by anti-Chinese sentiment, which led to an increase in prostitution.
