In Japan, AV is becoming a growing a part of the market. Many video rental stores now stock NEVA-accepted videos. The earliest performers were typically young, inexperienced actresses or girls from the soap industry. In 1982, the Crystal-Eizou studio was formed and its director Toru Muranishi began developing a quasi-documentary style in filming AV. Many AVs in Japan have a documentary style. One such genre is the hamedori, which is pretty much a pornographic diary film. In this film, the male lead films himself engaged in sex, receiving blow-jobs and engaging in other actions. Unlike other films, hamedori uses a moving camera while action is happening. The goal is to provide the viewer with instant power. The adult video industry in Japan has many avid gamers, adding film studios, distributors, and self-regulatory bodies.
