In 1990, the MPAA modified the X rating to NC-17, which stands for "No Children Under 17". Although it has trademarked this rating, it hasn't prompted many filmmakers to use it. There are just a small number of movies published with an NC-17 rating, and most of them are not shown in mainstream theaters. Another designation for mainstream movies that are mature is the X rating. Movies with an X rating are meant for adults only, and might contain violent or sexual content material it is considered stressful to babies. This rating is issued by the Australian Classification Board, a government establishment that rates all movies in Australia. It is usually applied to fabric that shows non-simulated sex. The X rating was created on account of this need. This rating has made it difficult for filmmakers to make movies that have an R rating, and they have been forced to change the content of the film on the way to obtain the X rating. However, this designation was never intended to be an analogous as the PG rating. The MPAA created these rating techniques as a way to help parents check which movies are appropriate for their babies.
