In 2004, the Chinese executive began a national crusade in opposition t the content. In August of that year, they blocked a couple of overseas internet sites and closed down 97 phone sex lines. They also cracked down on dirty text message services. One man was even jailed for one and a half years for spreading porn. Pornography has been prohibited in China since 1949. Since then, Chinese authorities have been using artificial intelligence to detect pornographic material. However, some porn content does still slip during the cracks. The executive claims that porn content material in China is becoming more addictive, and these tighter rules are meant to keep away from this. The definition of pornography is a sophisticated one. It is broad, and officials may target anything else that violates public morality and/or harms youth. However, pornography is not banned in universities, and function art with nudity is less more likely to be banned than images.
