Defining pornography is a complex issue. Researchers across a big range of disciplines have tried to define pornography and take into account its results. But in many cases, researchers feel it is not acceptable to adopt a single, widespread definition. Defining pornography can be challenging because of the diversity of alternative materials and their content material. For instance, there's a difference between a hardcore porn and a softcore porn. There also is a change between degrading and non-degrading porn. A recent assignment aimed at defining pornography uses an interdisciplinary Delphi panel of 38 leading pornography researchers. During the project, the authors asked the participants to define pornography in a 5-point Likert scale. They then compiled a content material list. This content list aims to be as correct as feasible. It is intended to lower the likelihood of legislation towards pornography.
