The number is growing each year, setting a record for the maximum prevalence of sexless marriages in Japan. This book examines the meaning of sex and sexlessness in modern Japan. By evaluating the public and tutorial discourses on sexlessness in Japan with those in Germany and Austria, the book questions even if the phenomenon of sexlessness is a Japanese challenge or an international phenomenon. It engages in a re-analysis of the that means of sex and divulges how it impacts the lives of unmarried couples. In 2004, the Japan Family Planning Association began polling its participants about sexless marriage. This year, the survey was carried out by hand-introduced survey slips to almost 3,000 people among the ages of 16 and 49. The firm also interviewed a couple of hundred married men and women.
