The game occurs in a post-modern steampunk technological know-how fiction world where robots and bio-engineered mutants coexist along human beings. Cloud Strife, an eco-terrorist group called AVALANCHE, has been hired by them to fight Shinra Electric Power Company which controls Mako Energy - Mako Earth's sole source of energy. He at first strives for personal gain, yet soon realizes his activities have a giant effect on all the world. Ultimately, he joins rebel group AVALANCHE and formative years friend Tifa Lockhart in their mission to defeat Shinra Electric Power Company and save Earth. Along the manner, he meets many fascinating characters, consisting of Vincent Valentine - a former Turk who has become an authority at transmuting into immense forms. Although able to speak little, Vincent gives advantageous advice when it comes to combat and aiding his team come out successful. Sephiroth, an old, highly effective personality who joins the party briefly during a single collection, also joins them.
