It organizes annual awards ceremonies in Geneva and any watch brand can take part with one or more watches published after March and before October of any year. To qualify, a brand must submit an end entry form and present as a minimum one watch at the rite. The award, shaped like a hand, was designed by Genevan painter Roger Pfund, and it symbolizes the know-how and mastery of watchmaking crafts. Each year, a jury is formed to check which timepieces will obtain GPHG Awards. The Jury is led by historian and author Nick Foulkes, and is produced from 30 members. The Jury also is increasing in 2020 to include a new initiative called the GPHG Academy. This Academy includes 350 watch specialists and industry experts. The GPHG Awards ceremony is held in November each year. Winners are announced in each category. To qualify for the 2021 version, an eye have to have been introduced in advertisement sales after May 2020, and it has to be on the market by the end of October 2021. The 2021 version of the awards is open to watch agencies from all over the realm.
