Preference for foreigners over nativesWhile the findings of the present study do not supply a definitive explanation for Japanese women's option for foreigners, they imply that alternative for foreigners is not necessarily due to social concerns, but rather to an activation of a sense of self through which consistency is valued. This finding also indicates that Japanese people's private options aren't as far far from their perceived norms as those of Indian people. This may be because that social cues often set off normative issues, but they do not always push people clear of their private options. The Japanese look like less prompted by these cues, and their choices in social contexts match their preferences better. Future research is had to test these hypotheses and discover the level to which individuals's alternatives are influenced by social cues. The main effect of culture on alternative was not huge, however the interplay between situation and tradition was.
