" The XXX symbol can be found on both beer labels and in lots of adult places. xxx is a restrictive rating for filmsMany people won't realize that the X rating for films is not really a restrictive one at all. In the 1970s, it was common for movies to receive a X rating. However, this rating was not trademarked and pornographers began using it. This rating became very customary as pornography became more usual and more appropriate. Eventually, it became common to use distinctive X rankings to distinguish films with various levels of sexual content. This rating was first introduced by the MPAA in 1969. The MPAA desired to create a rating that anybody could use with out fear of losing their handle. In order to do this, they determined to open up the X rating to all filmmakers, allowing them to use it to label their films with adult themes. Unfortunately, this policy led to a rapid growth of the pornographic film industry.
