It's interesting to notice that the boom in lolicon came at a time when child sexual assault and sex crimes were reducing in Japan. The Lolicon anime genre is made from cartoons that includes underage women in sexual cases. Lolicon manga has also spawned a subgenre called Shotacon, which depicts male cartoon characters in sexual situations.
