The X-Rating was announced by the MPAA to permit filmmakers to make films without having to fret about censorship boards. It was a way for them to break free of the rules that had been in place for the reason that film rating system first began. But despite this freedom, the X-Rating also had its detractors. Many theater owners were against exhibiting films with this rating, as a result of they conception it would be hard to sell tickets to their audiences. The X-Rating also had a negative impact on other sorts of films, which include people that were not pornographic. This was because a large number of people did not want to go to theaters that could only show films with an X-Rating. The X-Rating also had an effect on television and radio advertising. Some of these commercials stated that the film was rated X or XX. Another reason that the X-Rating was not a good rating for movies is because it had become hopelessly associated with porn. Because of this, the X-Rating was finally discontinued in 1990 and changed by the NC-17 rating. The X-Rating became famous for a reason and that is because it allowed films to be made that were not just sexy but in point of fact bad.
